Description

The Office of The Moderator and General Secretary is seeking individuals to fill the role of  Leadership Animators.  This is an 8-week program at 35 hours per week with an anticipated start date of June 30 or  July 1, 2025.

The Leadership Animators’ work will include liaising with a regional office and local congregations, team meetings, leadership development, and event planning for local and national programs. They will, at times, work remotely and will need capacity for online communication and learning.

There are five main goals for the Leadership Animators:

  1. Leadership development - including Governance, Invitational and Entrepreneurial skill-building;
  2. Vocational discernment
  3. Event planning
  4. Visioning and strategy development
  5. That at least 50% of the Animators will be Indigenous and Racialized, thus learning and living anti-racism and right relations

The Leadership Animator Program will include training, leadership development, education, living in community, and event planning. Leadership Animator Coordinators will be responsible for submitting all employment paperwork and reading any necessary training materials at the beginning of their employment.

They will connect with other young people across the church who are engaging in leadership and event planning and will work together to plan Youth Forum at GC45. They will gain skills in community engagement, team building, program and event planning.

Leadership Animators will spend 5 days in Toronto at Emmanuel College for a time of learning and community building from July 7-12, 2025.

Leadership Animators will participate in General Council 45, learning and leading in the governance of the United Church and will attend online training and program planning throughout the summer, as well as planning and providing programs in local settings.  They will learn about the polity, ministry, and history of the United Church in their local context as well as in the national context and will work with their cohort to develop and carry out the program and schedule for Youth Forum at GC45.

These Animators will communicate their events and plans to others in the church, particularly in their regions and will work regionally to vision and strategize ministry with young people into the future.  At the end of the program, they will participate in a debrief of the program that will include: a) A full review of the summer – all activities, plans, and decisions made; b) Affirmation of work done, learnings made, and courage shown; c) Feedback on the continuation of the position and program for future and will be open to providing insight, expertise, and mentoring of future programs.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Youth between the ages of 15 to 25 are eligible to apply for this position
  • Secondary education;  
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
  • Basic technology skils allowing for connection with other students across the country
  • Ability to work on their own and be self-motivated
  • Experience in or willingness to learn about anti-racist and anti-colonial ways of leading; teamwork and ability to live in community with a diverse population
  • Participation in a community of faith and commitment to the spiritual and governance work of the church
  • Competency in Microsoft Office

Compensation

Salary will be at $22.55 per hour plus 4% vacation pay.
