The Organizational Development and Strategy Unit of The United Church of Canada is seeking an individual to fill the role of Social Media Coordinator as part of the Canada Summer Jobs Program for 2025. This is an 8-week program at 35 hours per week with an anticipated start date in the third week of May.

The United Church of Canada’s Communications team is seeking a motivated and creative Summer Student to help with content creation for existing and new social media profiles of The United Church of Canada. The successful Candidate will work closely with the Digital Communications Coordinator to create content that aligns with the United Church’s goals and values.

Main Responsibilities will include:

  1. Content Creation & Design – Develop engaging content for social media and blogs using tools like Canva, aligned with organization’s brand and voice.
  2. Social Media Management – Maintain and schedule posts across existing and new social platforms using content calendars.
  3. Brand Development – Assist in establishing and refining branding for new social media profiles.
  4. Trend Research & Strategy – Monitor emerging social media trends and contribute insights to enhance public branding and engagement strategies. Assist the Digital Communications Coordinator to develop and execute the newsletter strategy.
  5. Collaborative Campaign Planning – Work closely with the marketing team to brainstorm blog topics and support overall content strategy.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must:

  • Youth between the ages of 15 to 30 are eligible to apply for this position
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written ability, excellent communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office – ability to work with computers and basic platforms such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Have working knowledge of databases
  • Social media savvy
  • Good customer service
  • Creative and Graphic Design skills is an asset
  • Familiarity with Mailchimp or other newsletter platforms is an asset
  • Ability to read and write French, a major asset
  • Knowledge and basic understanding of the United Church is an asset

Compensation

Salary will be at $21.66 per hour plus 4% vacation pay.
