Compassionate God,
We mourn the trail of devastation, death and destruction left by the earthquake in Myanmar-Thailand, with sighs too deep for words as we offer our hearts in prayer.
We grieve with the families and communities of the over 1,700 people who have died and the over 300 people who are known to still be missing and ask that they are comforted in their grief.
We ache with those who have lost their livelihood, and those whose homes and communities have been destroyed. May reconstruction efforts begin in earnest now and sustained in the many years of recovery to come.
We lament with those who live on the margins of society, and those who have now been pushed to profound losses: without the basics of food, shelter, clean water, sanitation and the ability to call loved ones.
We give thanks, to all those who are providing humanitarian aid in this time of tragedy and ask for the safety of ACT and ecumenical colleagues who do your work on the ground.
We remember that you call us to build a world where all who are hungry can eat and thirsty can drink. And so, we ask that you guide the continued response to this devasting earthquake, so that all may have abundant life.
Amen
