To mark the beginning of Earth Month 2025, celebrating the theme of “Our Power, Our Planet”, The United Church of Canada is pleased to share our new 2023 and 2024 Sustainability Report: Deep Roots, Bold Action, Daring Decisions.

The United Church is committed to climate, ecological, and social justice, and to deepening our integrity by working to mend our world. We are a church that seeks to restore the balance of God’s created order, and to recognize the grave threat that climate change poses to it.&

Our Sustainability Report demonstrates how over the past two years, the United Church has been digging deep to live our climate commitments into being, nation and neighbourhood-wide. Communities of faith from Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, to Kamloops, British Columbia have been greening their buildings, speaking up for climate justice, strengthening their connection with the Earth, and supporting vulnerable communities to mitigate the impacts of climate change with partners in the Global South.

The fruits of these efforts and more are being shared and celebrated as faith communities participate in Together For the Love of Creation: Earth Week 2025 from April 20 to 27, praying, learning, and acting for climate justice at events nationwide.

In 2022, the United Church adopted a bold new emissions reduction target of 80 percent by 2030, replacing our previous goal of reaching the same reduction by 2050. Our report shows the bold, inventive actions being taken, and the policies put into place, by communities of faith and regional councils across the country to get us there.

Led by our four Climate Pillars (Putting our House in Order, Raising our Spirited Voices, Connecting with the Earth, and Responding to Climate Impacts), our deep investment in caring for God’s Creation is guiding us to be a sustainable, hopeful church for the future.
